ENERGY WORKSHOP
Presented By:
Southern California Edison and CARE Foundation
On Saturday, April 28th, Southern California Edison (SCE) and the CARE Foundation proudly hosted their third annual tour of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). Over 100 junior and senior high school students, along with some parents and Boy Scouts, spent the day touring the SONGS education building while attending four intriguing workshops on how nuclear power and the plant operates.
The morning was kicked off by a welcome by CARE Foundation President, Larney Fowler, and CARE Board Member and SCE Representative, Barbara Culverhouse. The students were then broken up into four groups and led through the educational sessions that included: Nuclear Generation/SONGS Overview, Radiation, Control Room Simulator and the Mechanical Lab. The kids eagerly took notes and answered brief quizzes at the end of each session. The day concluded by the entire group enjoying a barbecue lunch from Bad to the Bone.
Thank you to SCE, SONGS and the CARE Foundation for sponsoring this engaging event. Interested students can sign up for next year’s trip through the CARE Foundation.
